Simple Ways to Boost Your Mood on A Bad Day

We all have rough days. You know the ones – everything seems to go wrong, and you just feel stuck in a rut. It’s easy to get caught up in negative thoughts and feel overwhelmed. But remember, you’re not alone! These feelings are common, and there are ways to try and help yourself feel better.

Take a Walk or Move Around

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s more important than ever to prioritize our mental wellness and slow down. When I’m feeling stuck, moving my body really helps clear my mind. If it’s nice outside, a short walk in the fresh air can feel refreshing. But on colder days, I don’t always want to go outside. Instead, I might walk around the house, do some light stretches, or follow an indoor workout video. Even a few minutes of movement can make you feel more energized.

Create Something

Sometimes, having a consistent creative activity can really help when you’re not feeling great. For me, making something with my hands helps me focus on the moment. Making origami stars has become a go-to. It’s simple, repetitive, and calming, and in the end, I have something tangible to show for it. It really feels like I’m turning my worries into something beautiful.

If origami isn’t your thing, try something similar, like knitting or painting. Need ideas to get started? mindyourmind has a variety of wellness tips that focus on creative ways to support your mental health.

Using your creativity means expressing yourself. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and actually, it may be more beautiful in its imperfections!

Change your Environment

Sometimes, a small change in your surroundings can make a big difference. If I’m feeling stuck, I’ll rearrange my space; maybe move some furniture, organize my desk, or just tidy a corner of my room. On days when that feels like too much, I’ll switch it up with something fun, like reorganizing my bookshelf by colour or resetting the layout of my video game. It’s surprising how refreshing it can feel to create a new vibe, even in small ways.

Connect with Someone

Bad days can feel less heavy when you talk to someone who gets you. Text a friend, call a family member or chat with someone you trust. If you don’t feel like talking, that’s okay, too. mindyourmind has tools where you can explore your feelings without pressure.
