Doing More of what We Love

So here is the tea, guys! This month’s little win: I finally started learning Indian classical dancing, and it feels good. It’s not perfect, not fancy, just something that makes me happy.

Adding a bit of context

Growing up in India, I always had a thing for Indian Classical Dance. But my parents were busy, so I didn’t have much opportunity to learn the skill. I used to participate in youth festivals and my school’s annual day, and I still danced whenever I could. However, students who had a professional dance background were given preference in intra-school/college competitions. Watching dancers move with grace and emotion to the rhythm of the song has always made me happy. I used to picture myself dancing like that, wearing ankle bells (chilanka) and those vibrant costumes. But life happened, priorities changed, and that little wish slowly took a back seat. I did try online classes a few times before (especially after moving to Canada), but it never really worked out. Deep down, I always felt a bit of regret, wondering if I missed my chance to learn classical dance.

I’m taking lessons!

But last month, something happened. I met my dance teacher here in London, Ontario, two months before, and I told her about my dream. And guess what? She remembered. Last month, when she started a new batch of classes on Saturdays, she reached out to me. I felt like the universe had given me a little nudge, reminding me that it’s never too late to start something you have always loved. It is a small step. Yet, it is a step forward. And honestly, it feels so good. It felt like, after so many years, I finally did something just for me. So here I am celebrating my small step, sharing my little happiness with you all.
